Joe Kent files Ethics Complaint Against Jaime Herrera Beutler over Campaigning with Taxpayer Money

Battle Ground, WA – Today, Joe Kent filed a formal complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics over Jaime Herrera Beutler’s use of taxpayer-funding to pay for her campaign mail.

Joe Kent released the following statement:

The complaint is not related to the lies she tells about supporting border security in the direct mail piece she sent to the voters in our district. We all know she voted against building President Trump’s border wall and is an advocate of the amnesty that encourages so many people to cross.

The complaint is because this obvious campaign mailer was funded by taxpayers using her congressional office’s “franking” privilege that allows her to send mail for free. This privilege which is typically reserved for official business has instead been abused by her office to help save her failing, third-place campaign – despite the fact that she could easily have paid for this mailing using the millions of campaign dollars she’s raised from corporate PACs that count on her to do them favors.

I have little faith that her colleagues on the Ethics Committee in Washington will hold her accountable, but I’m making the complaint anyway because she needs to know that we are going to hold her publicly accountable.
